BioWare has officially announced that Anthem, its troubled sci-fi online looter shooter, will permanently shut down servers on January 12, 2026. The game will be completely inaccessible after this date, marking the final chapter for one of Electronic Arts’ most ambitious—and ultimately unsuccessful—projects.

⚠️ Key Dates to Remember

  • August 15, 2025: Anthem will be removed from EA Play, making it impossible for new players to join.

  • January 12, 2026: All servers shut down, ending the game permanently. No offline mode will be made available.

📉 What Went Wrong?

Launched in 2019, Anthem aimed to revolutionize online multiplayer with innovative aerial combat and a rich sci-fi setting. However, plagued by:

  • Chaotic development

  • Serious launch issues and bugs

  • Unsatisfying gameplay loops

  • Cancellation of the planned Anthem 2.0 overhaul

These issues led to Anthem’s downfall despite having maintained a small, loyal community.

Players now have limited time to say goodbye before Anthem disappears forever, closing a controversial chapter in BioWare’s history.
