Hideo Kojima is no stranger to loading his games with surprise celebrity appearances, and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is set to raise the bar even higher. In a recent episode of his podcast Koji10, Kojima revealed that the upcoming sequel will feature significantly more cameos than the original—and that Kojima Productions had to turn away half of those who wanted to appear in the game due to space constraints.

Cameos Galore—And Some Are “Powerful”

While the first Death Stranding included memorable appearances from the likes of Conan O’Brien, Edgar Wright, and Sam Lake, alongside a star-studded cast featuring Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, and Mads Mikkelsen, the sequel looks to eclipse even that.

“We had so many people wanting to appear that we ran out of room,” Kojima explained. “Some of the cameos we included are incredibly powerful.”

According to Kojima, these celebrity appearances were scanned in just 15-minute sessions, allowing a large number of notable figures to be added without slowing down production. However, he’s keeping tight-lipped about who made the final cut—players will need to discover them firsthand when the game launches.

When and Where to Play

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will release exclusively on PlayStation 5 on June 26. The game promises to expand on the original’s themes and gameplay with new mechanics, environments, and a broader, more emotionally complex narrative. Recent previews have praised its improved controls, expanded exploration, and deep, symbolic storytelling.

In our early impressions, we described it as:

“An experience both similar and different to its predecessor—an even bigger title, immensely more varied, infinitely more satisfying to control, and equally or more stimulating in its narrative.”

With a galaxy of cameos hidden throughout this sprawling world, Kojima fans will have plenty of reasons to look beyond the horizon.
