Fate/Extra Record will launch worldwide on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on January 28, 2027, Aniplex confirmed during today’s State of Play. Type-Moon’s full remake of the 2010 RPG rebuilds the Moon Holy Grail War with expanded story material, renewed character presentation and a deck-building Command Card battle system aimed at newcomers and veterans alike.
The Fate franchise began with Fate/stay night in 2004 and has since sprawled across games, anime, novels and more. At its center are Masters who summon Servants, legendary heroes drawn from history, then fight for a Holy Grail said to grant any wish. Fate/Extra was the series’ first RPG when it released in Japan in July 2010; Record is the modern retelling of that tournament rather than a side story wearing familiar coats.
War on the Moon Cell
The conflict takes place after humanity discovers the Moon Cell Automaton, a supercomputer hidden on the moon that creates the Holy Grail. One hundred twenty-eight Masters compete inside SE.RA.PH, a digital world built by that machine, until only one remains. Players begin as a Master with no memory of how they arrived, surviving only by contracting a Servant and learning what the next floor is willing to take from them.
Progression still asks you to gather intelligence on enemy Servants, because a True Name points toward combat style and weakness, then explore Arena floors filled with traps and enemies before the Decisive Battle. Those one-on-one Servant fights decide more than bracket standing. The losing Master forfeits the tournament and their life.
Command Card battles and editions
Combat has been overhauled around customizable Command Card decks. Attack cards deal damage, Guard cards build shields and Skill cards bring unique effects, with tactics shifting according to which of the three available Servants you contracted. New Commands drop from Arena treasure and tough enemies, so the deck you trust in week one should not be the same list you carry into the final bracket.
Standard digital editions are coming to PS5 and PS4, alongside a Digital Deluxe Edition that adds cosmetic costumes, an arranged music pack from the original Fate/Extra, and digital versions of the art book and soundtrack bundled with the physical Limited Edition. North American pricing has not been announced. January 28 now puts a firm date on a remake fans have been waiting years to schedule.
