Square Enix has set Final Fantasy VII Revelation for April 8, 2027, and used today’s State of Play closer to show how the final chapter of its remake trilogy expands both exploration and combat. Preorders are open now on PlayStation Store for PS5, with every edition including the Mecha-Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia as a preorder bonus.

The release date is the headline, but the extended demonstration gave the finale a much clearer identity after its earlier reveal. The Highwind is more than a backdrop, letting the party travel across a large open world before dropping into points of interest. Piko the chocobo also returns as a mount and now joins fights, developing new traversal and battle abilities alongside the party.

Jobs return as wearable combat roles

The new Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear system, shortened to FITS, gives party members four specialized roles: Warrior, Knight, Black Mage and Summoner. Each uniform changes a character’s appearance, move set and function in battle. The presentation showed Cid using Knight gear and Vincent equipped as a Summoner, opening another layer of party building beyond weapons, materia and the familiar synergy mechanics.

Revelation also adds instant character switching while moving through the world, plus a grappling gun for climbing rooftops and navigating dense areas. Some quests can be assigned to different party members, with that selection changing story events and gameplay scenarios. That sounds like a meaningful extension of Rebirth’s relationship-driven scenes rather than another checklist bolted onto the map.

Queen’s Blood is returning with a substantial storyline focused on Red XIII. New opponents can alter the flow of a match, giving experienced players fresh problems to solve while the party deals with the considerably larger matter of saving the planet.

Two premium editions include story expansions

The Premium Edition includes a Story Expansion Pass with two story-focused add-ons and 24-hour early access, along with the Reclaimant Choker and early-game consumables. Premium Plus adds a digital art book, mini soundtrack and additional in-game items, including the Polydroid Alexander Summon Materia. Square Enix has not detailed either expansion yet, so their stories and release timing remain open questions.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation concludes the story that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake and continued through Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Its April 8 date, controllable Highwind and flexible party systems give the finale a firm shape, while its biggest narrative turns remain under wraps.
