Polyphony Digital is splitting the free Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV update into two parts later this year, with the first arriving in October and the second in December. Kazunori Yamauchi framed the package as an early celebration ahead of Gran Turismo’s 30th anniversary in 2027, packing new circuits, cars and modes into a service update large enough that one drop would have been an awkward traffic jam.
October introduces Sportsland SUGO in Japan, a circuit known for elevation changes, a flowing layout and its familiar Dunlop bridge. December brings Autumn Ring back from the original Gran Turismo, giving a new generation of players a lap around a track that helped define the series before many of them had a license, virtual or otherwise.
Twelve cars and new ways to compete
Twelve new cars will arrive across the two Spec IV releases, although Polyphony is saving the exact garage list for a later reveal. Online Drift Trials will gather drivers around control, precision and style, while Shuffle Races randomize online conditions so the winning plan has to change mid-week instead of calcifying around one familiar setup.
Additional systems on the way include new Driving Experiences, an expanded Car Viewer, fresh progression elements and a Concierge feature for car buying. Details on how those pieces fit together are still coming, but the direction is clear enough: more goals for veterans, and more on-ramps for anyone who still treats the racing line as a polite suggestion.
Family Mode lands in December
Family Mode is part of the December update and is designed to make shared sessions easier when skill levels in the room do not match. Polyphony describes it as a welcoming starting point for mixed groups without turning the rest of Gran Turismo 7 into a padded playground, and it should give regulars something new to poke at as well.
More information on both Spec IV parts will arrive during Gran Turismo World Series Round 3 in Singapore on October 3. Until then, the calendar is set: SUGO and the first wave in October, Autumn Ring, Family Mode and the rest of the package in December, all free for current players on PS5 and PS4.
