The long-rumoured Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered has officially appeared in the ESRB database, confirming its imminent arrival on PlayStation 5 and PC. While this remastered edition of the 2017 action RPG was leaked in 2022, its age rating marks a significant step towards its official release. Guerrilla Games, the developer behind the original, is reportedly not directly in charge of the remaster, although no further details have been confirmed regarding the studio responsible.

What to Expect from the Remaster

Though Horizon Zero Dawn has already been released on PC with improved graphical features compared to the PS4 version and a patch enabling 60fps on the PS5, this remastered edition is expected to bring substantial updates. These include upgraded character models, enhanced environments, improved lighting, and more detailed animations—aligning the game visually with its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, which utilized a more advanced version of the Decima Engine.

This remaster is just one of several projects related to the Horizon franchise currently underway. Other ongoing developments include LEGO Horizon Adventures, a multiplayer title, and a rumoured MMORPG. Guerrilla Games is reportedly working on the third mainline installment of Aloy’s story.

Possible State of Play Announcement?

The appearance of Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered in the ESRB database coincides with rumours of an upcoming State of Play event, potentially next week. Speculation suggests that this remaster could be one of the key announcements during the showcase. Additionally, with the Tokyo Game Show set to begin soon, Sony may use these events to share updates on its upcoming releases for the fall and beyond.

While the ESRB description doesn’t reveal much new information, it mentions the game as an action RPG featuring Aloy in a post-apocalyptic world filled with robotic creatures. The description also references some blood and mild violence, typical for the franchise.

Fans of the original game and the Horizon series should keep an eye on Sony’s upcoming announcements, as it seems highly likely that the official reveal for Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is just around the corner.
