4A Games is going back under Moscow. Deep Silver and the official Metro channel put a new Renegade gameplay trailer into Gamescom Opening Night Live, and Deep Silver’s own post is the writeup for tonight’s showcase. METRO 2039 is the next landmark FPS from the studio that built this series. Single-player. Exploration, survival, combat, and stealth across a hauntingly beautiful and deadly world. Official copy on Deep Silver, Xbox, and Steam all use the same line: a harrowing conflict for the very soul of the Metro.

I opened the official site, the Xbox store tile, and Steam. February 2027. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Xbox on PC. Xbox Play Anywhere is printed. Steam does not print a US dollar amount. Neither does Deep Silver. I am not inventing one.

The Stranger Is Not Here to Save Anyone

You play the Stranger, a voiced protagonist 4A wrote with Dmitry Glukhovsky. He is not Artyom. Official Deep Silver copy calls him a man traumatized by a violent past, living in exile until the ghosts force him back to the one place he swore he would never go. Some people in the tunnels will see Spartan armor and think salvation. He has little interest in that. Hunter, the fanatical first Spartan, runs the Novoreich through propaganda and fear. The trailer gives you Sevastopolskaya, an independent station on the brink of a hostile takeover, Raiders in Novoreich pockets, and an irradiated surface that still looks like Moscow. The Fuhrer’s mantra is not the only voice that comes back. The Dark Ones join him at the end of the clip. Deep Silver asked what that means. I am not answering it for them.

Shatun, a UV Light, Hall 9.1, February 2027

New tools in the official ONL writeup: the Shatun, a pneumatic rifle you keep pumped, a breaching tool for weak walls, a cutting torch for welded doors, and a UV light that reveals hidden mutants, repels flying Insectalis, and lights codes.
