Capcom has revealed the first full trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, a major expansion coming to PS5 in 2027. The new story moves several years beyond the base game’s ending, adds the Skybound Eyrie locale and introduces fresh large monsters led by Gundoraja, an Elder Dragon capable of controlling storm clouds.
The time jump follows the sudden arrival of Lao-Shan Lung in the Forbidden Lands. Its attack leaves the Expedition Team unable to stop the destruction, prompting the group to fortify its position and build Madoi Stronghold in preparation for the monster’s return. Nata is no longer the young Keeper players met in Wilds; he has grown into a full Hunter and now ventures into the new region with his Wudwud partner, Bangard.
Skybound Eyrie is a high-altitude ecosystem shaped by violent weather and airborne threats. Araketa is a Bird Wyvern that travels in packs by manipulating air currents, while pack leaders use distinctive calls to coordinate the group. Gundoraja occupies the opposite end of the food chain, bending storms to its will and emerging from the darkest clouds over the region.
The investigation reaches beyond two headline monsters. Lao-Shan Lung’s appearance appears to have disturbed the Forbidden Lands at a fundamental level, expanding the habitats of Guardian Monsters and drawing additional Elder Dragons into the area. Capcom is also preparing new abilities for all 14 weapon types and further gameplay mechanics, although those systems will be detailed closer to launch.
Ascendance requires the base Monster Hunter Wilds. Players must reach Hunter Rank 40 and complete the quest “Awaking From a Dream” before starting the expansion’s story and entering Master Rank. That requirement places the new campaign firmly after the current ending instead of offering a separate route for new Hunters.
Capcom also released a free Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo on PlayStation Store today. It includes the opening portion of the story, character creation for a Hunter and Palico, and access to all 14 weapon types. Created character data can carry into the full game, giving newcomers a clean way to prepare without pretending a charge blade will explain itself in five minutes.
A precise release date and price for Ascendance have not been announced. For now, the 2027 window, Master Rank structure and multi-year story jump position it as the substantial follow-up Wilds players have been waiting to see.
