Capcom used PlayStation’s State of Play today to date Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The first new Onimusha in 20 years launches September 25, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Windows. A free demo went live the same afternoon on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Epic, which is the part of the announcement you can actually swing a sword at before the calendar does.

The demo is Kiyomizu-dera Temple, then a fight with Musashi’s rival Sasaki Ganryu. Keep that save, because Capcom says the file grants the Kubi Akari charm when the full game launches, even if the run itself does not carry over. Progress not transferring is a small insult after a temple full of Genma, but the charm is at least a receipt for showing up.

Mount Oe, and a Genma Who Claims a Famous Name

The date trailer is the fifth in the series, hosted on Capcom USA’s YouTube. It leaves the temple for Mount Oe, a range outside Kyoto that a colossal Genma has taken as a stronghold. He claims to be Shuten Doji. Capcom is already asking whether that is true, which is a polite way of saying the legend is standing in the pass and the name on the door might be a costume. Musashi uses Oni speed and Oni strength in the cut, and there is a glimpse of a fully awakened Oni Warrior, the version of him that has stopped pretending this is only a duel.

Three Editions, Two Pre-Order Extras

Pre-orders opened today. Early reserve gets the Sealed Curse sword skin and the Lion Dog charm, and Deluxe and Premium Deluxe pick up extra bonuses on top of that. Standard is physical and digital, Deluxe and Premium Deluxe are digital only, and Deluxe is the base game plus cosmetics and charms for Musashi while Premium Deluxe adds more cosmetics for him, outfits for allies, and the in-game soundtrack.

This is Miyamoto Musashi with the Oni Gauntlet in Edo-period Kyoto, Issen and Soul Absorption still in the kit, Genma pulled into the living world. Capcom already notes that the PC demo’s early performance is not the finished product, and an official PC Benchmark tool is still coming, so treat tonight’s frame time as a mood, not a review.
