Capcom used today’s Nintendo Direct to put Onimusha: Way of the Sword on Nintendo Switch 2, and it is not a later port. The game launches day-and-date with PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on September 25, 2026. Pre-orders opened the same day on the Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Steam, Epic, and the Windows Store, which is the rare Capcom trick of adding a platform without making anyone wait for it.
Switch 2 gets exclusive motion controls with Joy-Con 2, aimed at sword combat and at bow aiming. That is the hardware argument for buying Kyoto on Nintendo’s box instead of the one sitting in another cart. The rest of the pitch is still Miyamoto Musashi, the Oni Gauntlet, and Edo-period Kyoto under Genma.
The Switch 2 trailer is on Capcom USA’s YouTube. It is the same samurai in the same city, now with the option to swing the Joy-Con 2 like the sword is actually in the room. Button controls are still there for anyone who remembers why motion swords had a reputation. Capcom is calling the motion option exclusive, which is the one genuine Switch 2 line in a Direct that otherwise treated Onimusha as a multiplatform fact. The State of Play demo remains the way to try the sword on PlayStation 5, Xbox, Steam, and Epic before September 25, and Switch 2’s extra is that motion option rather than a different Kyoto.
The rest of Capcom’s Direct was not this game. Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is October 9 at $49.99, with the expansion sold on its own for $29.99, and Devil May Cry 5 Devil Hunter Edition hits Switch 2 on June 23 at $29.99 for early adopters through July 31, then $39.99. Those are other rooms, and this page is still Musashi.
Official social is @OnimushaGame, the Switch 2 trailer is above on the Capcom USA channel, and the official Onimusha site still lists September 25.
