PlayStation Portal Update Brings Public Network Access and User Experience Enhancements
Sony has rolled out a significant update for the PlayStation Portal, the handheld device designed to play PS5 games remotely. This update, which is now available, introduces several user-requested features aimed at enhancing the overall gaming experience. The update includes the much-anticipated ability to connect to public Wi-Fi networks, alongside other improvements to usability and functionality.
Public Network Access Now Available
One of the new update’s standout features is the PlayStation Portal’s ability to access public Wi-Fi networks. Previously, the device was limited to home Wi-Fi networks due to its lack of an internet browser, which made it difficult to log into public networks in places like cafes, hotels, and airports. With the new firmware update, the device now displays a QR code when attempting to connect to these networks. Users can scan this QR code with their smartphone or tablet to complete the login process, making it easier to use the device on the go.
Enhanced Visual Feedback and Battery Management
In addition to public network access, the update also brings enhanced visual feedback for the emulated touch panel areas. This allows players to see exactly where they have touched, improving the precision and usability of the touch controls. Furthermore, Sony has added a feature to display the remaining battery percentage in the status bar. Users can activate this by opening the quick menu, navigating to settings, then system, and enabling the “Show battery percentage” option under the battery settings.
