Until Dawn 2 will launch for PS5 on January 28, 2027, Firesprite confirmed during today’s State of Play. Preorders open September 10 for the Standard and Digital Deluxe editions, while the new trailer brought the Dead True crew back to Blackwood Sanatorium before sending its ghost-hunting production to Akishima Island.

The date turns a broad 2027 promise into one of PlayStation’s first major releases of the year. This remains a standalone sequel with a new cast, but it is not severing every thread to the original. Peter Stormare returns as Dr. Hill, and Blackwood’s tragedy becomes material for the crew’s television episode before intern Izzy reveals a necrotic scar that changes the production’s plans.

The audience can become part of the nightmare

Akishima Island has been abandoned since a luxury development failed during the 2000s, leaving the Dead True team to investigate something much older and less interested in television schedules. The familiar choice-and-consequence structure returns across eight crew members, with decisions changing who finds clues, who becomes isolated and who survives.

The trailer frames one decision around Owen, played by Dacre Montgomery. He can follow a signal while searching for the missing Nate or cross an unstable bridge toward a surprisingly active bar. Either route may uncover useful information or expose another character to danger. Firesprite also showed the in-world studio audience demanding a sacrifice, suggesting the team’s manufactured paranormal show may gain an uncomfortable degree of control over events.

Preorder and Digital Deluxe extras

Preordering either edition unlocks three Dr. Hill-themed extras: a classic Until Dawn outfit, an Akishima Island holiday outfit and Dr. Hill collector bobbleheads hidden in the game. The Digital Deluxe Edition adds the Y2K Neon Vibes Pack, which supplies alternate costumes for all eight members of Dead True, and Diorama of Death.

Diorama of Death lets players revisit each grisly outcome through vignettes that present the deaths from additional angles. It is a fittingly macabre gallery for a series built around discovering how badly one decision can go, while North American pricing remains unannounced.

Firesprite is developing Until Dawn 2 for PS5. With a firm January date, returning Dr. Hill and a reality-show premise that folds an audience into the danger, the sequel now has more than familiarity carrying it into opening night.
