IO Interactive’s upcoming James Bond game, 007 First Light, is shaping up to be a substantial single-player experience. According to content creator JorRaptor, who spoke directly with the game’s gameplay director and other team members, the main story campaign is expected to take the average player approximately 20 hours to complete.
This figure does not include the additional content from Tactical Simulator mode, which lets players replay missions with new modifiers, challenges, and rewards, a structure that strongly echoes the Escalation system from IO’s Hitman series.
007 First Light follows a young James Bond on a globe-trotting journey filled with high-stakes missions, from glamorous galas in England to remote facilities in Iceland and beyond. The game is designed as a focused, narrative-driven action-adventure with a linear structure, but one that still rewards different playstyles and skill levels.
The runtime can vary based on:
For completionists or those diving into Tactical Simulator mode, the total playtime is expected to stretch significantly longer, offering replay value well beyond the initial 20-hour campaign.
IO Interactive is no stranger to crafting memorable, replayable experiences. Their work on the modern Hitman trilogy proved they excel at blending tight narrative moments with deep, systemic gameplay that encourages multiple playthroughs. 007 First Light appears to follow a similar philosophy: a strong, cinematic story paired with mechanics that reward creativity and mastery.
As we noted in our recent hands-on impressions: “007 First Light seems to know how to move very well between more spectacular and guided sections (with pure action and shooting) towards others in which our creativity is promoted (with a lot of stealth and strategic use of the environment).”
The game is scheduled to release on May 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. With its blend of narrative depth, high-octane action, and replayable mission modes, 007 First Light is shaping up to be one of the year’s most intriguing single-player adventures.
