The terrifying stalker of the new Resident Evil could be Alyssa Ashcroft, Lisa Trevor… or someone new entirely.
One of the biggest mysteries surrounding Resident Evil Requiem (out February 27, 2026) is the identity of its nightmarish monster. After its Gamescom 2025 demo, which we also tested back in June, fans are more divided than ever: who is this towering figure that relentlessly pursues the protagonist, Grace Ashcroft?
Grace, the heroine of Requiem, is the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, the investigative journalist who appeared in Resident Evil Outbreak and its sequel on PS2. Canonically, Alyssa died eight years before the events of Requiem, but the new demo hints at something more sinister.
In the sequence shown, Alyssa is attacked at the Wrenwood Hotel by a hulking, hunched creature that only recoils when exposed to light. According to notorious leaker Dusk Golem, this could be the shocking early reveal: Alyssa herself has been transformed into the very monster stalking her daughter. If true, Requiem would be weaving one of the saga’s darkest family tragedies.
Not everyone buys the “Alyssa is the monster” theory. Another popular fan speculation links the creature to Lisa Trevor, one of the most iconic Umbrella experiments from the first game’s lore.
The similarities are striking: the hunched silhouette, grotesque strength, agonized wails, and a twisted bond with motherhood. Some think Capcom is either paying homage to Trevor or even resurrecting her legacy in mutated form, blurring the lines between old horrors and new.
Adding fuel to the fire, eagle-eyed fans have spotted that Alyssa’s pistol in the cutscene resembles Leon Kennedy’s VP70/Matilda from Resident Evil 2. This detail has sparked theories that Alyssa could be a second playable character, something that insiders hinted might be revealed at Gamescom, but wasn’t officially confirmed.
For now, the debate rages: Is the monster Alyssa, Lisa Trevor, or an entirely new bioweapon? With Capcom teasing that Requiem will bring the series back to pure survival horror while digging deep into its lore, fans will likely have to wait until closer to launch, or until another trailer drops, to uncover the truth.
⚠️ One thing is clear: Resident Evil Requiem isn’t just recycling old ideas. Whether it’s tying back to Outbreak, riffing on Lisa Trevor, or introducing something completely original, Capcom is crafting one of the saga’s most disturbing mysteries yet.
