Hyped4 | It's all about the hype... Steam Deck: Valve’s laptop put to the test with Cyberpunk 2077, Doom Eternal and more – Hyped4
The hybrid notebook achieves 60fps and higher yields with the right settings; CD Projekt RED’s RPG runs between 20 and 30 fps at high settings.
Steam Deck, the console / PC hybrid, doesn’t reach the first buyers until December, but the development kits are already sent to the studios, and a Chinese user has published the results with the performance of the notebook; its technical specifications are more or less the same as the final ones, so except for possible optimizations it will be the same operation as in the commercial model.

The tests have been done with several blockbusters in recent years, starting with Shadow of The Tomb Raider that runs at an average of 36 fps in high quality, but with custom settings, it is possible to exceed 60 fps at native resolution -1280 x 800 in portable mode-. With Doom Eternal and medium settings, an average of 60 fps is achieved, while improving the visual quality is lowered to about 46 fps which are still playable and fluid, according to the user. With more eSports-oriented games, such as DOTA 2, 140 fps is achieved in the hero selection, but with the highest quality, it drops to 47 fps; 80 fps is performed at low settings.

They also did the tests with a graphically demanding game, Cyberpunk 2077, which achieves between 20 and 30 fps at the highest settings. The performance would be similar to the PS4 and Xbox One, but with more visual detail, so there would be room to adjust the quality for a smoother performance.

Approximate performance with games:

  • Shadow of The Tomb Raider (High): 30+ FPS on average
  • Shadow of The Tomb Raider (Custom): 60+ FPS on average
  • Doom Eternal (custom): 46 FPS average
  • Doom Eternal (Low): Average 60 FPS
  • DOTA 2 (high): 47 FPS
  • DOTA 2 (low): 80 FPS
  • Cyberpunk 2077 (High): 20 – 30 FPS

Battery temperature and life

The user also measured the temperature, which reaches about 43º at the back of the Steam Deck and about 29º at the grips or sides. On battery life, down from 100% to 46% with three hours, a pretty good figure for a laptop with this power; It is estimated that it will offer between 4 and 5 hours without the need for charging.
