Naughty Dog has issued a statement apologizing to fans of The Last of Us for not showing its multiplayer at the past PlayStation Showcase and announcing a new game.

The past PlayStation Showcase left some special announcements, such as the advance of Alan Wake II or the extensive gameplay of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, a title whose release date has not yet been revealed beyond the fact that it will be available on PS5 in the fall of this 2023 There were notable absences in the presentation. Still, the one that was perhaps most missed, in the face of the usual public of online games, was that multiplayer installment of The Last of Us that has been promised to us since, at least, the release of The Last of Us – Part 2, and it’s been a bit of a rainy day before. Naughty Dog has issued an official statement via Twitter apologizing to the users for not showing anything of the title, informing them that it needs more time. But to compensate, the company anticipates that it is already working on a new experience for a player.

The Last of Us multiplayer needs more time, reports Naughty Dog

“We know many of you have been wanting to know more about our The Last of Us multiplayer game. We’re incredibly proud of our studio’s work thus far, but as development has continued, we’ve realized that The best thing for the game is to give it more time,” the company in charge of the Ellie and Joel game explained on Twitter. Our team will continue to work on the project and our other games in development, including an all-new single-player experience; we look forward to sharing more soon.” This announces that Naughty Dog is already at work with a new single-player title, which we already knew.

From Bloomberg, they report that the development of The Last of Us multiplayer has only a small group of workers and that the company is reassessing the game’s situation. Most of the company’s assets are focused on that new single-player experience. In other words, it may end up being cancelled at the last minute if Naughty Dog is not convinced with the quality of the game at this point. The development is still underway for now, but things could go wrong.
