Halo 5: Guardians Review

Microsoft's star franchise takes a leap to the next generation with an essential adventure for all Xbox One owners.

Furthermore, each character comes with a few twists in their personalities and interesting developments that will definitely create quite a few discussions amongst the series’ fans.

When looking at the gameplay itself, you will be surprised by all the new possibilities that the game offers. They dynamics of the game has changed a bit in regards to pointing with the weapon, as well as the possibility to sprint at all times. Be careful not to abuse this feature since it could cost you due to the delay to quickly aim while running. There is the option to hop on raised platforms and the capability to dodge attacks like never seen before, both on foot and in the air while falling.

Assault Team Osiris is not as charismatic as the Blue Team, but starring some of the most spectacular moments of the adventure.

All new movements that were integrated into the gameplay are implemented so that you can’t abuse each individual move but yet if you use it intelligently you will do harm to the opponent. The controls of the game feel quite natural and the mobility presented with all the advanced possibilities will make the gamer feel like a real warrior.

As mentioned before, the design of each level is extremely nice looking. The game will give you options to replay scenarios to review your epic game play. You will have quite a few of these scenario reviews since each mission has it’s variety. You will be able to fight on foot or in vehicles. Especially the final stretch of the game will be quite nerve wrecking and basically the highlight of this game.

New skills are well balanced and integrated with the usual mechanics of the series.

The developer did an excellent job on the enemy’s AI, which you will feel more and more by increasing the difficulty level. Especially on Legendary you will be punished with every mistake. If you understand and respect the chain of command, you should be able to succeed. Again, the AI is extremely well done and comparing it to Halo4, you will find it quite refreshing since certain patterns have changed, which is much more challenging and interesting.

The AI is also applicable in case you can’t find any team members to play with. The game will assign characters to your team since the co-op needs four players. Therefore, you will be accompanied by three other Spartans that will assist you during the co-op gameplay. This will not enable you to experience the game as a lone wolf.

The Prometheus are now much smarter than before, so do not underestimate when you go against them.

Unlike the enemy AI, your partners that are assigned to you in the co-op mode die relatively fast due to unreasonable decisions, such as holding back when they should attack. Especially when playing higher difficulties, you might run into some frustrating times. You will spend quite some time trying to revive them, but they will be there if you need to be revived, which is a positive.

Good

  • Jaw-dropping visuals and locked at 60fps
  • New mechanics and controls feel simply great!
  • Multiplayer is very smooth and the Warzone mode with a group of friends is all we can expect and more from Halo 5

Bad

  • Very minor texture issues
  • Absence of the Big Team Battle mode from the beginning (which confirmed that it will be coming for free in the future with an update)

Amazing

As far as I can remember, I've been surrounded by technology. My father bought us a Commodore 64 so I started playing games as a baby, following my passion with Amiga 500, then PC and so on. I love game related collectibles, and when I'm not collecting I review games, watch movies and TV Shows or you may catch me keeping a low profile at Game Events.
