Layers of Fear Review

A sensational horror game, intelligent, well measured and unpredictable.

The audiovisual aspect of Layers of Fear is key for us to see this title in a different light. The treatment has become art, which have caught us from the start. Like all this may be little or no appeal to certain players for example, someone reluctant to science fiction, you may not enjoy SOMA – but if this approach draws you probably enjoy the game as much as we do.

Dementia of our protagonist allows this title plays with us, and become totally unpredictable and surreal. You never know what can happen wherever the camera is not pointed, and the environment can change at any time not only behind a door, but behind our back. This creates a constant tension, a tremendous sense of insecurity and development always open to surprises.

In addition to a very elaborate visuals, the use of sound is great. It is recommended always to play with a good surround sound or headphones and with very high volume, as there are objects that reveal their position through sound.Other small details help create atmosphere, like the footsteps of our hero come to sound like a heartbeat, and other touches that make it a fairly round section!

Technically, Layers of Fear is a very, very competent game. It looks great, and successfully manages to capture an artistic ambition that is perhaps not easy because you have to modify many elements in real time Player backs. This causes some problems in the rate of frames per second at peak times, but nothing serious to stop us from enjoying the experience. As with the sound we will give a good volume recommended to enhance the experience in regard to image is important if possible play in the dark.

Final Thoughts

layers-of-fear-2016210172755_3Layers of Fear is a horror game that fans of the genre will love. It invents nothing new, but makes everything re-feel again thanks to a great pace, moments to remember and a very solid and well thought out execution. Price is reasonable and also one can find reasons to replay. Painting and dementia come together to create a universe that knows how to trap you under such tension until the last minute.

Good

  • Great AudioVisual experience, similar to Silent Hills PT
  • Playing with a great pair of headphones and high volume will bring lots of moments full of surprises
  • Interesting Story of psychedelic Artist

Bad

  • At certain points in-game fps may drop, but not a deal breaker.
  • Wish the game-play was longer.
8.5

Great

As far as I can remember, I've been surrounded by technology. My father bought us a Commodore 64 so I started playing games as a baby, following my passion with Amiga 500, then PC and so on. I love game related collectibles, and when I'm not collecting I review games, watch movies and TV Shows or you may catch me keeping a low profile at Game Events.
