Action Henk Review

Simple and addictive platform racing game, wishing for more content and ideas.

However, at times, the difficulty becomes frustrating,  especially the challenges against other characters raise the bar a bit. Not a big drawback other than repeating the same level many times until you get a success. Beating the boss unlocks that character, which has no effect on top speed, acceleration or jumping ability.

Game offers a local multiplayer mode supports up to four users on PC version so far, which is also available on console version. Unfortunately this mode has issues. Well, yes you can compete with friends, but there is no split-screen, both player shares the same screen, and the camera only follows the leader; who is left behind does not reappear until the next checkpoint. It is obvious that the developer was exclusively focused on the campaign and multiplayer was an afterthought.192.168.222.233_image_27

The main problem is that Action Henk is very limited in options and gameplay, it doesn’t offer much other than solo scoring modes and local multiplayer without online. Absence of a track editor is unfortunate, which is exclusive to PC version, that totally boost play time for fans Action Henk, wish it was available on console version too. There are plenty of games already that have shown the possibilities of creating and sharing  on consoles is very popular, especially when creating a loyal community and offer more variety of designs is a winning formula.

Visuals are not so impressing, there are inconsistencies in the quality, shows no technical display to justify some loose textures or the lack of more current effects. It feels like last generation game with an increase in resolution.

Final Thoughts

Action Henk is easily accessible and engaging. Based on the speed and transitions make sure to keep the momentum at the beginning of race, after you get used to it try to lower the completion time and realize that the playable part is deeper than it appears. It could be a great game with more perspective, but the idea as it’s current form doesn’t feel original and on top of that missing options such as online multiplayer and mentioned track editor.

Action Henk has its fun moments but after a few hours it start showing  shortcomings, wish they could improve the existing formula, yet if you are a fan of the genre definitely worth trying.

Good

  • Accessible for everyone
  • It has fun moments

Bad

  • Repeating an existing formula without any innovation
  • Missing vital elements such as split screen and a track editor

As far as I can remember, I've been surrounded by technology. My father bought us a Commodore 64 so I started playing games as a baby, following my passion with Amiga 500, then PC and so on. I love game related collectibles, and when I'm not collecting I review games, watch movies and TV Shows or you may catch me keeping a low profile at Game Events.
