Minecraft: Story Mode Episode 1: The Order of the Stone

Telltale Games crafted a story for Minecraft, a game much recommended for fans of the original game.

Because the game is targeted to younger-audiences, this also reflected in decisions you make in game. Well it’s not a deal breaker for elder players, although they may need focus on defining the relationship between the group of characters in the game, it could be difficult to maintain them happy all the time. As for the the QTEs are kept simple and similar to the mechanics of original Minecraft, such as construction. Other aspects like crafting are better kept, and you can select the elements needed to create weapons or other objects in a reasonably similar way to which we are accustomed from the original game.

First episode is feels more like a prologue. Obviously, it should have a prologue within but, it has not seemed to us like this is “Episode 1”, but it’s like “prologue to Episode 1” because it ends just when everything starts to take shape . Considering how generally other Telltale series started, this one left us a bit cold.

Sound and Graphics

Sounds and graphics of Minecraft: Story Mode – Episode 1: The Order of the Stone is just what the title needed. And not for its technical section, but by how similar to the original game, while upgraded subtly to tell a story.  Everything from the interface to the sounds are tailored, including jokes for fans of the series.

Telltale has achieved the perfect balance between aesthetics of the game and needed to tell a story in which the characters are subtly get a visual ugrade.

Again, the cast of actors is sensational, and the voices are the best of the game . In this episode we find famous voices like Patton Oswalt ( Ratatouille , Agents of SHIELD ), Brian Posehn ( The Sarah Silverman Program , Mission Hill ), Ashley Johnson ( The Last of Us , Tales from the Borderlands ), Scott Porter ( Friday Night Lights , X-Men ), Martha Plimpton ( The Goonies , Raising Hope ), Dave Fennoy ( The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series , Batman: Arkham Knight ), Corey Feldman ( The Goonies , Stand By I ), Billy West ( Futurama , Adventure Time ) and Paul Reubens (Tron: Uprising).

More Telltale, this time with a younger audience in mind

Although as an episode, it feels somewhat like a prologue, Minecraft: Story Mode – Episode 1: The Order of the Stone is a good way to start the series. Of course, keep in mind that is aimed at a younger audience, and as such, the tone of the adventure is much shallower , the decisions seem to be too light and do not know how far it will get surprising.

Of course to the fans of Minecraft, Telltale brought an essential title with the original formula, and it is a fun tribute to the work of Mojang, made with love and much respect . If you’re looking for a deep and mature story, this is not game you should purchase. If you are looking for the “story mode of Minecraft” then welcome on board.

Good

  • Art and the character upgraded visually, amazingly stayed faithful to the original
  • Voice acting is simply great

Bad

  • First Episode feels like a prologue other than a complete chapter.
  • Dialogues and contexts are targeted to a more younger audience, unless a fan of series, try other games of the developer.

Good

As far as I can remember, I've been surrounded by technology. My father bought us a Commodore 64 so I started playing games as a baby, following my passion with Amiga 500, then PC and so on. I love game related collectibles, and when I'm not collecting I review games, watch movies and TV Shows or you may catch me keeping a low profile at Game Events.
