Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree’s Woe and the Blight Below Review

The legendary RPG is coming off with an entertaining, loaded with well designed adventure content.

If you are a fan of the genre you may recognize some characters. The game has created characters which handle each game situation in a certain swag. So in this particular case we prefer characters and very little care, they would have gotten a lot anyway. Each has its own style of combat, and for example Luceus, Aurora and Norris used the sword, the staff Doric, Aila boomerang, gauntlets Alena, Kiryl a spear, Jessica whip, Yangus ax, bow Bianca, Nera Maya a magic wand and fans, being totally different attacks and magic skills.

The combat system is deceptively simple , but gradually we discover that you have a good chance. Each character has two types of attack, which in combination allow us to perform combos, can use up to four spells or skills that are as varied, you can dodge attacks, block with shield and even make counterattacks. And when the hard way we can fill a rod into sleep modeHigh voltage , during which we do not consume PM points to execute skills, and ending with theKnockout , the most powerful attack of each character.

These ingredients are already enough for a combat system rich in possibilities, but also can summon monsters allies to lend a hand, in some scenarios there balistas and lanzaconjuros weapons we can use to attack enemies, and most interesting is that at any moment we can control one of the four team members , so we can be constantly changing and make the dynamic and entertaining fighting, trying different possibilities.

The base or the gameplay mechanics seem very good, plus the controls work perfectly, and problems come from the design stage, very narrow and small , repeating situations and lack of surprises, even compared with other musou and a very low difficulty most of the game (we can not choose to start the adventure difficulty), which allows you exceed 90% of the situations pounding buttons without thinking too much . It is in certain missions and side challenges, and the bosses, when we have to use to the full, having to study the weak point of the enemy without losing sight of the vitality of the characters.

Basically there are three types of missions : battles against hordes of monsters, in which our goal is to clear the stage of enemies, battles to protect a person or object, which we must avoid at all costs that the enemies destroy one or more objectives that have a life bar (the most difficult missions of this type have a clear strategic component, having to manage our priorities and placing some monsters to protect the bases), and boss fights, very spectacular fighting against giant enemies or special features, when Dragon Quest Heroes manages to get away from the norm and be more original.

The low difficulty and lack of variety in the design of missions make the game can cross out to be repetitive, but the truth is that it has never come to seem boring or tedious , which is important. The missions are quite short, rarely lasting more than 10-15 minutes, and this gives it a great pace to the adventure, which is peppered with funny dialogue, cinematic very showy and constant rewards, allowing us to improve the attributes of the characters , spells and abilities, and his team: weapons, shields, suits, accessories and so on.

Good

  • Character designs are one of the best in the series
  • Game mechanics are very versatile, each new game will hold a different experince
  • Seeing known characters from the previous series is a great addition

Bad

  • Not much to say hope we would see a remastered edition of the previous game at some point

Great

As far as I can remember, I've been surrounded by technology. My father bought us a Commodore 64 so I started playing games as a baby, following my passion with Amiga 500, then PC and so on. I love game related collectibles, and when I'm not collecting I review games, watch movies and TV Shows or you may catch me keeping a low profile at Game Events.
