Mario Kart 8 Review

Nintendo playable again demonstrates its excellence with which probably is the best delivery of a legendary saga. A wildly fun game to be glued to the TV alone or in the company for tens of hours.

The 30 characters are followed dividing light, medium and heavy, and this in combination with the type of chassis-different types of karts, motorcycles and quad-, wheels and glider class, change the speed, acceleration, weight , handling and grip in endless combinations that we keep trying to find that we are the most comfortable. There are many components to unlock vehicles we obtain coins during races, and the game also invites you to use all the characters, because it is the way to unlock the seals 90 Miiverse available. All this with the goal of winning all three cups -ganando four stars in all four categories Carreras -50 cc, 100 cc, 150 cc and Espejo, do we have time in the game for single player experience.

That does not mean that as we have said many times, still longing for one story or career mode as we have seen in other games karts, so many years ago and recent, and even Mario Kart DS was a little way beyond the Missions . And not because it offers Mario Kart 8 us fall short and bored us, but to have something fresh and different and not to play the same modes that always accompany us take many years. Nor is there a set of challenges or challenges that force us to play differently to complete, something you could really use, or for example a paltry statistics in the game how long we’ve been playing, how many races we won and which characters use more. It’s just one example, in a game that by not having has no options menu to change any parameter.

In the game modes have the Grand Prix with eight cups and the four categories, the Trial , where we compete for the best possible times on each circuit, and where we can challenge ghosts of other players who downloaded Internet, allowing download up 16 ghosts in total, with a maximum of four per stroke. In Carrera VS. we can create a custom game, choosing to play or not equipment, objects, category, the level of difficulty of the CPU, the type of -all vehicles, karts, motos-, circuits and the number of races . And finally the traditional way Battle , here in his only mode “broken balloons”, although it was never please everyone, itself has very good times, and I have finished loading in this release.

The classic way in which we have three balloons burst our opponents, which has always been developed in special combat arenas, now takes place in a scenario straight out of the circuit, as is, without editing. Eight scenarios to choose which are smaller versions of some tracks, and where the playable approach thus practically lost its reason for being, as these classic and fun battles it a bump with rivals in the middle of the roads without much sense . We do not understand what motivated this decision, but they have spoiled a way that worked very well.

This, along with other details, sometimes give the impression that Mario Kart 8 has been done hastily. No gameplay, which is perfect, nor in the design of circuits, very careful, but in everything that surrounds the core gameplay -options, anyway- that meets the minimum, and it is also very important in a video game, even if some insist on looking the other way.One example is the online mode, which expected a little more at this point , and that except for the complete creation of tournaments, it has hardly changed from what we saw Mario Kart DS , nine years ago.

Good

  • New levels are very smartly designed and super fun to play
  • Online is smooth and very well coded
  • Variety of new additional content to unlock

Bad

  • Wish there were more character choices
  • Some limitations such as no menu access at pause and missing content from previous installments such as blue shells

Great

As far as I can remember, I've been surrounded by technology. My father bought us a Commodore 64 so I started playing games as a baby, following my passion with Amiga 500, then PC and so on. I love game related collectibles, and when I'm not collecting I review games, watch movies and TV Shows or you may catch me keeping a low profile at Game Events.
